about

Salon music of the Belle Époque
Josef Hauser (1854-1939) - the German Francisco Tárrega (1852-1909)

Francisco Arcóns own versions close the historical cycle started by Josef Hauser's when he first played his zither at Duke Maximilian of Bavaria's home, leading to today's famous Hauser guitars; as well as the musical and geographical cycle between the Spanish Tárrega and the German Hauser.

Josef Hauser visited Duke Maximilian of Bavaria in his residence and played together with him all night on a zither newly built by Hauser. Thus began the history of Hauser guitars in 1875, which are appreciated by most famous classical guitarists. Josef Hauser composed a large number of musical pieces as well, which are preserved by the Hauser family.

Due to the versions for guitar by Francisco Arcón reveals a number of musical parallels between Hauser and Tárrega. The shared spirit of the Belle Époque creates a fascinating connection between the two composers. Francisco Tárrega is appreciated worldwide for his beautiful melodies and his great commitment to the development of guitar playing technique. Josef Hauser composed a large number of impressive pieces and was also an instrument maker of the highest order, a concert zither player, a music publisher and a playbook author. While Tárrega strongly idealized the characters and landscapes in Romanticism, Josef Hauser, despite being a romantic as well, remains more concrete and direct in his musical descriptions. His compositions provide music lovers with a clear picture of the people and realms for which he composed. Both musicians focus their compositions on the salon music of the late romantic period, with a strong influence of the traditional music typical of their respective countries. Pieces like "La Gran Jota" and "Recuerdos de la Alhambra" by Tárrega find their counterparts in "Aus Bayerns Bergen" and "Erinnerung an Schloss Herrenchiemsee" by Hauser.
Francisco Arcón - classical Spanish guitarist, composer and sound engineer - born and raised near to Francisco Tárrega's birthplace, has a long-standing connection to the Hauser family. Thanks to an approved NEUSTART KULTUR grant, Francisco Arcón, who has lived in Bavaria for over 30 years, had the opportunity to realize a long-cherished wish: The new versions of selected pieces by Josef Hauser for the guitar, as well as the arrangement and recording of the new versions in his recording studio SOL with his Hauser-Amberger guitar "Model Francisco Arcón" and a historical Stauffer guitar from Josef Hauser's time.
